Efectos del azúcar en nuestra dieta

Effects of sugar in our diet

It is no secret to anyone that excess sugar plays a detrimental role in our diet and in our body. We must know that it is one of the most consumed substances in the world and that we have the power to ingest consciously or unconsciously.

It is a sweetener whose flavor is addictive, and that is why the food industry uses it to maintain their products. The most important problem is that it satiates without nourishing, that is, it does not provide any type of essential nutrient such as vitamins, minerals or proteins to our body, so it does not serve to maintain an optimal state of health in terms of regeneration or growth of this, but only provides calories.

Among the effects we can mention:

  • It worsens the performance of the brain: The memorization and learning processes tend to be intensified in those who consume sugar, as it negatively affects the formation of synapses in the brain; that is, by consuming sugar, our ability to learn and form new connections is diminished, especially in our ability to generate new memories and learn new information

  • Reduces the feeling of satiety: Activates the pleasure zones of the brain, which reduces the feeling of being satisfied when eating food.

  • Accelerates aging: Decreases the repair of collagen, the protein that provides a healthy and youthful appearance to the skin.

  • Weight gain: excess fructose and glucose are converted into fat in the liver, increasing the risks of obesity and type 2 diabetes.

  • Damages tissues: accelerates the oxidation process of cells. This can develop liver disease, kidney failure, and cataracts.

  • Addictive: consuming sugar leads to the release of dopamine, the neurotransmitter that causes you to want more of the substance that produces pleasure.

  • Lower energy: although the consumption of glucose causes a sensation of energy, it must be borne in mind that this is a brief effect, since the "fall" often comes, causing great exhaustion.

¡Watch your sugar intake! Your health will thank you!!
